1 My child, listen to what I say,
and treasure my commands.
2 Tune your ears to wisdom,
and concentrate on understanding.
3 Cry out for insight,
and ask for understanding.
4 Search for them as you would for silver;
seek them like hidden treasures.
5 Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God. (Proverbs 2:1-5, New Living Translation)
Many people will tell you they know what's best for you. Now they won't always say it that way. Instead of coming right out and saying, "Hey do it this way, its the best." They will try to convince that the choices to make are just that simple. You can typically hear it in phrases like:
"Do what you feel is best."
"The only thing that matters is what you want, no one else can tell you what to do."
"Just follow your heart, it will lead you there."
The problem with these words of advice and many others like them is that give no place for Wisdom. If you want to truly be wise, it takes work. Unlike most of the movies or TV shows that fix all of their problems in 30 minutes or a couple of hours, gaining Wisdom takes time. If you are going to learn what God has in store for you, you are going to have to take the time to figure it out. Remember how long the Love Dare was from Fireproof? (The movie lasted two hours, but the actual time it represented was over a month!)
The proverb tells you to "cry out for insight and ask for understanding." What this means is that you would call out to God for Wisdom (which is insight and understanding) and when you don't get it immediately, keep asking. Ask until you finally receive it. Make it your daily work to "search for insight and understanding" as if they were treasure - because they are. This means turn off the TV and read the Bible. Take time during the day to pray and ask God for Wisdom. If you are trying to figure something out talk to your mom or me about it so we can pray with you. But as you pray and search, wait for the LORD. This is not easy because, we really want things to be done fast. With God, his timing is the best, but not always quick. So be patient and wait.
Last thing, remember that God may change your direction at any time. So be in prayer. Sometimes God will allow your friends to try and get you to do things that aren't wise or even Godly. He does this so you either will call out to Him for Wisdom or so you will use the Wisdom you already have. Be careful that you don't let your friends confuse with their own wisdom (notice the lower case). If that Wisdom is not God's it is Folly and Folly will always want to hurt you.
Love you guys.
